Jennifer Simon

Jennifer Simon is a freelance teaching artist in New York, Maine, and California. She creates works in clay, paper, weaving fibers with mixed media, and objects found in nature. She is inspired by organic forms found during her travels in nature and in the ocean. Organic forms and their processes of evolving in nature fascinate her, leading her to fiddle with how these forms can be altered through the use of ceramics and various mixed media. She draws inspiration from the interconnectedness of the organic form and the relationship with their vessels of origin. Various inspirations stem from seed- pods, eggs and their shells and nests, egg-sacks, and seashells.

Her desire is to create sculpture that, although the forms are apart, separate or empty, the viewer can instinctually know how the forms “should” be. The union of the forms can visually and imaginatively be created. They inherently belong together, similar to the slices of an orange, an acorn to its cap, or a seed missing from its pod. Her work is sold in several galleries and is in private collections worldwide.
